Or - if I decide to help them, is just to consider it a gift, not a loan. That's why - like I said - to avoid that kind of resentment on my part, my response to a request for a "loan". So following the loan and their return to solvency, I wouldn't begrudge them a few small luxury items, but when you see somebody that owes you a few hundred dollars, suddenly driving a car nicer than your own, while not apparently even thinking of paying you back - it rankles. But most are people with apartments, just those who couldn't make their rent temporarily because they had lost a job, or had some huge bill to pay. I don't begrudge a borrower some luxuries, but I don't recall ever loaning money to any friend who was homeless, or in danger of being homeless - of course I would, and have helped a friend out on the streets, either with a loan or my couch to sleep on.
